De Stellenbosch Suites – Stellenbosch

  • Project : De Stellenbosch Suites – Stellenbosch
  • Client :
  • Details : The project site is located along the old Aan-de-Wagenweg, surrounded by the renovated Volkskombuis Restaurant, sport fields and Strand Street. The main features of this development are the renovation of historic buildings and additions of new buildings for a small boutique-style hotel with supporting soft and hard landscape elements. The project includes soft and hard landscape interventions, such as reinforcing the old werf layout, including formal gardens and hedges, herb/ edible gardens and orchards around Aan-de-Wagenweg precinct, to acknowledge the agricultural value of the buildings as well as the existing Cape-Dutch Architecture in precinct.

An indigenous plant palette was utilised, but trees such as English and Pin Oaks as well as shrubs such as Lavender were included as these have a distinct character and relevant identity within the Stellenbosch context. The project further features the upgrade of Aan-de-Wagenweg and transplanting of large street trees to reinforce the existing avenue of mature oak avenues. The precinct is also connected via NMT route to Eerste River Walkways which directs users to popular Dorp Street, various university buildings and residences as well as schools and sport centres.
